GM Daewoo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A yet-unnamed SUV (codenamed C100), based on the Chevrolet S3X concept developed using the GM Theta platform, is scheduled for an early 2006 release.
On November 25, 2003, the design center was relocated to the new 2-story building at the Bupyeong headquarters and assigned the task to style a new SUV based on GM's Theta automobile platform to be released in 2006.
Under the supervision of Dr. Ulrich Bez, Daewoo developed its own models not based on any GM platform.

GM has also just launched a website that will explain the finer points of children's safety seats to consumers (www.chevy.com/childseats.) The Equinox also has no less than five cup-holders (you just knew it would), as well as a height-adjustable rear parcel shelf and, apparently, more rear seat legroom than the Mercedes S-class.
It's the all-new 2005 Chevrolet Equinox, which, according to GM, fills the space between the Trailblazer/Envoy and the recently departed Tracker.
The advantages of this system over the traditional hydraulic arrangement include weight saving, better fuel consumption and, according to GM officials, a more precise feel.

The other reason GM might have delayed giving the Equinox to Chevrolet was to give Saturn dealers a head start with their version of this vehicle, known as the VUE.
GM says the 185-horsepower engine features a "broad torque curve for confident merging and passing," and that the transmission "has an adaptive learning capacity to ensure shift quality is maintained throughout the vehicle's service life."
Perhaps it was contractual agreements with Japan's Suzuki, which provided the Tracker platform to Chevy, that kept GM from developing a car-based SUV like the Escape, which is based on the platform of the Mazda 626 sedan.

This is an interesting article on GM, what GM did to itself when it killed Oldsmobile, and why killing Buick next isn't really the answer to their problems.
Aside from the trailblazer clones, GM seems to have done a decent job of differentiating their SUV's, and having a good cross section of vehicles to meet current and near term market demands.
